Opened by an address from the First Minister, Rt. Hon Carwyn Jones AM, the awards attracted over 200 business people who were keen to celebrate the achievements of some of the county borough’s leading organisations.

ROCKWOOL Ltd was awarded the coveted title of ‘Bridgend Business of the Year 2014’ after earlier picking up the accolade of ‘Manufacturing Business of the Year – over £1m turnover’.
The company which has been based in the county borough for over 35 years, is the world’s largest producer of stone wool insulation and the second largest insulation producer globally.
The ROCKWOOL group has annual sales of Euro 1.8 billion and employs over 9,300 staff in more than 33 countries. It has 22 factories around the world including the site at Pencoed.

Rory Moss, Managing Director of ROCKWOOL Ltd said: “Winning these awards really helps us to celebrate the progress we’ve made in product development despite the tough trading conditions of the last few years. By continuing to invest in our people and innovation, we are in a great position to grow as the construction industry recovers and create new jobs in the local area. We were delighted to receive these awards and would like to thank the Bridgend Business Forum.”

Bob Perry, Production Director, ROCKWOOL Ltd added: “These awards have given us something we all can feel a part of. I am very proud to be involved with a fantastic business with great people.”

ROCKWOOL also sponsored the ‘Award for Creativity and Innovation in Business’ which was won by Wales Interactive Ltd, a successful games developer based in Pencoed.
Alison Hoy, Chair of Bridgend Business Forum, who presented the ‘Bridgend Business of the Year’ award said: “Congratulations to all the winners and shortlisted businesses. The judges were very impressed with the standard of entries and selected winners which demonstrated going the extra mile to achieve their business goals.

“The awards night was a fitting tribute to these cutting edge businesses, located in Bridgend. The night was not only an opportunity to celebrate achievements but to look to the future and grow through the new networks created at the gala dinner and the opportunities that winning brings.”

The awards were also supported by Bridgend County Borough Council and attended by the Leader, Chief Executive and Mayor of the council.

Council Leader, Councillor Mel Nott, OBE said: "Our businesses are the backbone of our economy and we are committed to supporting them and promoting enterprise in the county borough.
"I’m proud that the council can play its part, through the valuable work of the Bridgend Business Forum to provide the platform to showcase the fantastic talent and skill we have in our business community.

“It is important to acknowledge the substantial contribution that large companies such as our overall winner ROCKWOOL Ltd have made to the local economy. However, we must not overlook the vital role our small and medium-sized enterprises make too – they are the bread-and-butter of the economy and play their part in making our vision for Bridgend County Borough a reality.”
