About South Wales Police Central BCU

South Wales Police Central Basic Command Unit(BCU) covers the geographic areas of Bridgend County and the Vale of Glamorgan.This covers a population of 265,500 residents and encompasses the towns of Bridgend,Barry,Penarth,Llantwit Major and Cowbridge. The Operational Commander is Chief Superintendent Joe Ruddy,who has responsibility for approximately 500 members of staff, and strategic responsibility for delivery of policing services within the area, including statutory and non statutory partnership working. Within the BCU officers and staff are deployed in a diverse range of activity from emergency response to neighbourhood policing; criminal investigation;child protection;domestic violence and the management of sex and dangerous offenders.The mission of the South Wales Police is to keep South Wales safe, which in turn has a direct impact on inward investment together with the willingness of business to operate in the area and ultimately the confidence and satisfaction of the general public.
